How we rank

score = (1 + log10(1 + engagement)) × 0.5age in days ÷ 7

  • Engagement is the source's public count, refreshed daily by script: Hacker News points for stories, X likes for posts, and the reply count for an individual HN comment. Entries without a number (blogs, sites) count as 0. Each entry shows its number, label and fetch date.
  • The log stops one viral post from drowning everything: 10 likes adds 1, 1,000 adds 3.
  • Recency halves the score every 7 days, so new posts can rise.
  • Caveat: HN points and X likes are not the same thing, and counts can lag by up to a day. Treat the ranking as a rough signal, not a verdict.
